Simple advice on how people can protect themselves in the heat, and what perceived temperature means.Απλές συμβουλές για το πώς μπορούν οι άνθρωποι να προστατευτούν από τη ζέστη και τι σημαίνει η αισθητή θερμοκρασία.

Ein Tag gegen die HitzeA day against the heatΜια ημέρα ενάντια στη ζέστη

We cannot switch the heat off, but a day can be arranged so that the body is stressed as little as possible. The idea is simple: use the cool hours, and spend the hot hours in the shade or in the cool.Τη ζέστη δεν μπορούμε να την σταματήσουμε, μπορούμε όμως να οργανώσουμε την ημέρα ώστε το σώμα να καταπονείται όσο το δυνατόν λιγότερο.

Früh am Morgen und nachtsEarly morning and nightΝωρίς το πρωί και τη νύχτα

Ventilate thoroughly while it is cooler outside than inside. Put outdoor tasks, shopping and exercise into the early hours.Αερίστε καλά όσο έξω είναι πιο δροσερά απ' ό,τι μέσα.

Mittag und NachmittagMidday and afternoonΜεσημέρι και απόγευμα

Keep the sun out: close shutters, blinds or curtains and keep windows shut. Avoid strenuous activity and rest if you can. If you must go out, walk in the shade.Κρατήστε τον ήλιο έξω: κλείστε παντζούρια, ρολά ή κουρτίνες και τα παράθυρα.

Über den ganzen TagAll day longΌλη την ημέρα

Leichte Mahlzeiten.Drink regularly, even when not thirsty, preferably water. Light, pale, airy clothing and a hat.

Füreinander da seinLooking out for each otherΝα νοιαζόμαστε ο ένας τον άλλον

On hot days check once on neighbours, older people and those living alone. A short call or visit can do a lot.Τις ζεστές ημέρες ρωτήστε για τους γείτονες, τους ηλικιωμένους και όσους ζουν μόνοι.

Was wir von früher lernen könnenWhat we can learn from traditionΤι μπορούμε να μάθουμε από την παράδοση

Many simple means are old and proven: shutters, thick walls, shady lanes and courtyards, trees in front of the house, pale façades and the rest during the midday heat that has long been usual around the Mediterranean. They work without technology and cost little. Good adaptation to heat often begins by taking such knowledge seriously again.Πολλά απλά μέσα είναι παλιά και δοκιμασμένα: παντζούρια, χοντροί τοίχοι, σκιερά σοκάκια και αυλές, δέντρα μπροστά στο σπίτι, ανοιχτόχρωμες όψεις και η μεσημεριανή ξεκούραση στη ζέστη, όπως συνηθίζεται από παλιά στη Μεσόγειο.

Gefühlte Temperatur: warum 30 Grad nicht gleich 30 Grad sindPerceived temperature: why 30 degrees is not always 30 degreesΑισθητή θερμοκρασία: γιατί οι 30 βαθμοί δεν είναι πάντα 30 βαθμοί

How hot it feels does not depend on air temperature alone. Sun and heat radiated from walls and asphalt, wind, humidity, clothing and your own effort all play a part. In full sun on a square, 30 °C feels very different from 30 °C in the shade of a tree with a breeze.Πόσο ζεστά νιώθουμε δεν εξαρτάται μόνο από τη θερμοκρασία του αέρα.

Zwei sind besonders verbreitet:Science summarises this in indices that can be read like an air temperature. Two are especially widespread:Η επιστήμη τα συνοψίζει σε δείκτες που διαβάζονται όπως μια θερμοκρασία αέρα.

Das Modell RayMan auf dieser Seite berechnet sie.PET (Physiological Equivalent Temperature): it tells you at which air temperature in an ordinary room your body would carry the same heat load as outdoors. The RayMan model on this site calculates it.PET
  • UTCI (Universeller Thermischer Klimaindex): ein international abgestimmter Index, der in mehreren Ländern für Hitzewarnungen und Forschung genutzt wird.UTCI (Universal Thermal Climate Index): an internationally agreed index used in several countries for heat warnings and research.UTCI

Heat does not affect everyone equally. At particular risk are older people, infants and small children, pregnant women, people with chronic illness, people who work or exercise outdoors, and people without a cool place to retreat to. If you take medication regularly, ask your doctor whether anything needs attention on hot days.Η ζέστη δεν επηρεάζει όλους το ίδιο.

In an emergency: very high body temperature, hot dry skin, confusion or loss of consciousness are warning signs of heat stroke. Call the emergency number 112 at once and move the person to a cool place until help arrives.Σε έκτακτη ανάγκη: πολύ υψηλή θερμοκρασία σώματος, καυτό ξηρό δέρμα, σύγχυση ή απώλεια συνείδησης είναι σημάδια θερμοπληξίας.
